I've had the privilege of photographing this family for the past four years straight! The mom was pregnant the last time we shot, so it was great to have an addition to the family this year. We used their beautiful home as our setting. Thanks for viewing!

Angels Baseball

Not only did I get to witness Vlad Guerrero's 399th & 400th homeruns in person the other night, I got to do it from one of the best seats in the stadium...Diamond Club section: 3rd row, just to the left of home plate!

1. Here's a view from my seat. See that protective net?

2. I had to shoot through the net from my seat, so I manually focused and relied on a wide aperture to blur the net as much as possible.

3. Here's Vlad warming up in between innings, so I was able to get a quick grab just outside the net.

E-Session: Jean & Paul

Disneyland Session

Here's the story...this dear family wanted to do a session in a bright, colorful setting. They brought up the idea of Disneyland. I knew it would be quite a challenge to do an actual family session in such a busy environment (especially in the middle of summer!), but if we could pull it off, it would be such a rewarding shoot. My goal was to capture the flavor and ambiance of Disneyland & California Adventure and yet not allow the environment to compete or be a distraction. In other words, I didn't want the pictures to have a "snapshot" look to them. And by the way, in a typical family portrait session, I can usually pick one spot at just the right time. At Disneyland, however, I wanted to be at a million different spots at the same time...at the golden hour! Oh well!

One other thing...I knew lighting would be a huge issue, especially since I couldn't drag all my gear into Disneyland, but when I was sharing about the session with my good friend (and very talented photographer), James Szeto, he volunteered to come along and assist. That's the kind of guy he is. We always work well together as a team, and this time was no different. It was awesome! Maybe I'll talk about our lighting technique at an upcoming seminar!

All Dressed Up

This young family wanted to get dressed up for their session, so I decided to take them to Union Station in downtown Los Angeles. This spot is popular for engagement sessions, but I thought I'd try it out for a family session. The place definitely has its challenges with all the people coming and going and some tricky lighting conditions, but as always, this family was lots of fun to shoot. You might remember them from the boy's first birthday party last November. Thanks for viewing!

A Mother's Day Gift

It's been busy! I'll have lots of photos to post in the coming days...

I had lots of fun photographing these three siblings (twin boys and their younger sister). A while back, I was contacted by their aunt (whom I've known since she was barely older than these kids!). She wanted to set up a session for her nephews and niece as a Mother's Day gift to her sister-in-law. What a great idea! We all had a blast at the Pasadena City Hall. It often takes a village to photograph kids. The kids' mom, aunt, and mom's friend were all there to help entertain, and they did a great job! And a huge thanks to Linda Tamarpirat for assisting again! She did a wonderful job chasing the kids around and providing awesome light!
