Preschool Portraits - That Time of the Year Again

Wow, it's been a while! So much is going on these days, but I just wanted to give you an update...

For the past five years, I've had the fun (and very exhausting) assignment of taking class portraits for a local preschool. I can't tell you how tiring it is to get 60 three and four year old kids to relax, sit still, and smile naturally. And who can blame these kids? I'd imagine it's pretty intimidating for a preschooler to have a complete stranger take his/her picture! I have to pull out all the stops every year. For some kids, it takes a lot to bring out a smile, but in the end, it's well worth it and so rewarding. Here's a small sampling of all the adorable preschoolers! Thanks for viewing.

Hi Mary! Thanks for your kind words! I hope you've been well. Things have been soooo busy for me lately, so I've been kinda MIA. I want to schedule some more workshops...hopefully before too long!

Wow! Awesome pictures! Where did you have your lights positioned? It just looks like natural light!! haha! I was trying to decide which kid looked the cutest, but I kept on switching from kid to kid the more I scrolled down, then I decided they're all soo adorable!

Tou, thank you very much! And you are very observant...this time I chose to go with natural light! I used a series of windows (camera left) and positioned the kids at an angle. A silver reflector was positioned diagonal from the windows to open up some of the shadows.

Christy, thank you very much. They were too cute. It took some of them a little time to give me a natural smile, but when they did, those smiles just lit up the room!

wow tim you're awesome if you got 60 kids to look like that. i've done photo shoots with kids and it is exhausting! you're the one jumping up and down and pouring all you energy to get a smile....i just kept smiling more and more as i scrolled down. they're all so cute! you can even see a bit of their personality through these pics. any mom would be so lucky as to have you as their school photographer. hope they paid you millions of dollars ;) or at least what these pics are worth! great job!

haha. these kids photos really made my day. and your photos, still crazy how you take the sharpest perfect photos. i mean you almost make me "idolize" you. very borderline here! i always have to pray before coming to your site... "I shall have no other gods before you". man~ my children's school photos SUCK! i never buy their photos. i think point and shoot quality is better than their professional photos. it's over-sharpened, typical school poses and backgrounds, etc. yours are so simple and focuses on the kids rather than the distracting background/props. anyways, great work PT as always. ;)
